Scaevola: Writer, Professor & Mystic
In the heart of The Hague, where the grandeur of politics and mysticism meet, lived Scaevola - a versatile writer, professor and mystic whose ideas brought together ways of thinking from different disciplines. Born in the turbulent years of the 20th century, he embraced the spirit of his times: a world in transition, full of discoveries in psychology, history and even the bizarre ripples of quantum mechanics. Scaevola's fascination with the human psyche and multiplying social dynamics led him to the frontiers of the unknown.

In his early years, he tested the capabilities of the human mind through experimental psychology, often combined with the psychedelic experience of LSD. Such ventures soon brought him into contact with esoteric circles in both The Hague and nearby Leiden, where he further developed his intellect and curiosity. Here he met like-minded individuals, together on a quest for the hidden truths of life - a theme that would figure prominently in his work.

's-Gravenhage: Mystical Court Capital

's-Gravenhage, The Netherlands, also referred to as 'Hofstad' (Court City) has long been an epicentre of spirituality.

In the late nineteenth century, Europe once again went in search of the ‘Higher’. Against a background of secularisation, people started looking for alternative forms of religion. The Hague was alive at exactly this time. Add to this the fact that at the end of the nineteenth century, many retired civil servants, generals and governors from the East Indies migrated to the increasingly prominent capital of the Netherlands. The notables had got to know the ‘goenaguna’ in the foreign land - the spirit world of the Indonesian tropics, and they were open to all kinds of oriental magic and mysticism.

And so it happened in 1859 in The Hague that the first Dutch spiritist society 'Oromase’ was founded, followed by the the establishment of the Peace Palace in 1913, a milestone in the spiritual development of The Hague (source). No wonder that in this mystical environment, Scaevola's ideas found fertile ground.
